Ted Cruz Pledges To ‘Kill The Terrorists’ In New Ad

Republican presidential hopeful and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is airing a pair of new ads in the early caucus state of Iowa, touting his leadership qualities and determination to defeat the so-called Islamic State in the Middle East.

"If I’m elected to serve as commander in chief, we won’t cower in the face of evil. America will lead," Cruz says in the first 30-second spot, which aired during the Big 10 Conference’s college football championship game Saturday. "We’ll rebuild our military. We’ll kill the terrorists. And every Islamic extremist will know, if you wage jihad against us, you’re signing your death warrant."

The second ad, which also aired during Saturday night's game, features Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) touting Cruz's evangelical credentials.

"For over a year now, my regular prayer has been that God would raise up a leader whom he will use to restore the soul of America," says King, who last month endorsed the Texas senator. "One of them has been standing at my side time after time, and it was Senator Ted Cruz."

Both ads will continue airing in the Hawkeye State over the next two weeks, Cruz's campaign said, and are backed by a six-figure media buy.

Cruz has seen a pickup in momentum in Iowa, but he has yet to overtake rivals Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Ben Carson and real estate mogul Donald Trump, who continues to sit atop the polls.

Man Arrested On Flight After Threatening To Open Plane Door

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — A man aboard a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Belgrade has been arrested Sunday after threatening to open a plane door during the flight, Serbian authorities said.

Passengers quoted by Belgrade media said he banged on a cockpit door threatening to bring down the plane while it was flying over Austria if he was not allowed inside.

Lufthansa said the cabin crew and passengers on Flight 1406 managed to restrain him for the rest of the journey, adding that the plane doors can't be opened during a flight anyway.

"He got up and tried to do something with a door on the aircraft," Lufthansa spokesman Andreas Bartels said. "The plane landed safely in Belgrade and the passenger was handed over to local authorities."

Belgrade Blic daily said the man is a Jordanian with an American passport. Police questioned him after the plane landed in Belgrade.

Serbia's public prosecutor on Sunday ordered the suspect into 48-hour pre-trial detention on the grounds of endangering public safety.

Passengers, who included players of a Serbian handball team, said the man acted irrationally from the start of the flight.

"About halfway into the flight he tried to open a plane door, but the cabin crew stopped him," said president of the Vojvodina handball team Milan Djukic, adding that two players "guarded" the suspect for the rest of the flight while he was restrained in the front business section of the plane.

Jimmy Carter Says His Cancer Is Gone

Jimmy Carter is cancer free.

The 91-year-old former president made the announcement at the Sunday school class he was teaching at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, according to NBC News.

"Went for an MRI this past week and they [doctors] didn't find any cancer at all in the brain," Carter said.

Jill Stuckey, a friend and fellow churchgoer, spoke to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by phone as Carter was still teaching the class of about 350 people.

“He said he got a scan this week and the cancer was gone,” Stuckey said. “The church, everybody here, just erupted in applause.”

Carter was diagnosed with melanoma earlier this year and has undergone several radiation treatments. Last month, doctors said the former president was responding well to treatment and the cancer was showing no signs of worsening.

Speaking about the cancer in August, Carter seemed resigned about his fate.

"Now it's in the hands of God," he said. "And I'll be prepared for anything that comes."
